Nomination are being sought for the 2017 Mattoon Small Business of the Year Award, the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce said on its website.
The award honors a Mattoon business that has fewer than 100 employees for its recent accomplishments and community involvement.
“The Mattoon economy is dependent on small business to thrive and prosper,” the chamber release said. “Small businesses contribute to our local economy by bringing growth and innovation to the community. Small businesses attract talent who invent new products or implement new solutions for existing ideas. Larger businesses often benefit from small businesses within the local community, as many large corporations depend on small businesses for the completion of various business functions through outsourcing.”
The release also said small businesses are vital in investing in and volunteering for social-service agencies, events and civic functions.
The nomination form is available on the chamber's website, and requires a signed recommendation and support letters. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 1. The filled-out nomination form and letters should be sent to the chamber at 1518 Broadway Ave.
The winner will receive the award Feb. 3 a the chamber's annual dinner.
