Kiley Willison, a former trustee of the Oakland Fire Protection District, was sentenced today on a single Class 1 Felony charge after pleading guilty in September 2024. The sentencing follows a lengthy process that began with a Freedom of Information Act submission and led to the resignation of the Wiley family members from the board. Over $236,661 was stolen during Willison's tenure.
In court, it was noted by the State’s Attorney that the current Board of Trustees had no objections to the sentencing agreement. However, there was uncertainty about whether they would reduce the next tax levy if restitution is received.
Willison did not testify but provided an allocution letter in court. The judge expressed skepticism about Willison's remorsefulness but accepted the terms presented by both parties. Ten other charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.
The sentence includes financial restitution as a condition of probation. Failure to meet these obligations could result in imprisonment for four to fifteen years.
Victim witness statements revealed misuse of district funds for personal luxuries such as tickets for professional ball games and expenses related to a golf course owned by Willison. The State’s Attorney assured that all relevant information would be disclosed through a FOIA request.
Jerry Willison, Kiley's father, faces seven Class Three Felonies related to his role in these crimes and has yet to reach a plea deal. His status hearing is scheduled for May 19th at 9 am. There is concern that he may avoid accountability now that his son has taken responsibility for the thefts. Kiley’s wife, also a trustee at the time, has not been charged.
