Paris FD responds to 35 fires in 2016

Paris Fire Department responded to 94 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the East Central Reporter.

The calls in Paris included 35 fires - 16 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $967,650 in fire loss - or about $27,647 per fire.

The department also received 59 false calls, including two malicious calls and 57 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Paris Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and 17 retired or inactive employees, was $613,313 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $17,523 for every fire in 2016.
