Two teens are expected to be charged following reports of disturbances and items missing at the Clark County Park District’s Mill Creek Lake and Campground in late May, according to the Edgar County Watchdogs (ECW).
A press release from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office posted by the ECW says campers staying at the campground reported seeing flares and hearing a distress air horn overnight. The sheriff’s office recovered the stolen hand tools, which were found near the truck from which they were taken, as well as used flare casings and an empty fire extinguisher.
According to the report, officers located the father of the teens, who said he had found bottles of alcohol they had presumably stolen. The 15- and 18-year-old returned to the campsite and were taken to the sheriff’s office. Officers discovered that the juvenile is on probation in Edgar County for a felony conviction, and the sheriff’s office informed him of its intention to press disorderly conduct charges. The 18-year-old was notified that that the office will pursue charges of disorderly conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The sheriff’s office reported that it also received a call from a Paris police officer notifying the sheriff that the 18-year-old was connected to the theft of an antique, unloaded firearm, which officers subsequently recovered from the campsite, according to the sheriff's department.
