Phillips continues to draw big crowds at town hall meetings

Rep. Reggie Phillips of District 110 recently met with voters for the second standing room-only town hall session in a series of meetings focused on property taxes and the state’s budget.

Phillips, who reached out to voters during the crowded town hall at the Casey Senior Center, said he hopes the meetings will help residents better understand their taxes and rights.

“Property tax owners are frustrated with taxes; they are often confusing in what they fund and how they are calculated,” Phillips said in a recent press release.

During past town hall gatherings, Phillips has spent a considerable amount of time answering questions from voters regarding the state’s budget crisis.

“It’s important for people to understand the budget passed in June was only a partial, bridge budget and the second half will be debated in November,” he said.

Phillips has been touting the importance of funding vital government services and education with the Stop Gap Budget, which was passed earlier this summer by state legislature. During town hall meetings, Phillips has been discussing critical funding for the 110th District, specifically funding for Eastern Illinois University.

Furthermore, Phillips continues to drive home the message that the November election will be a turning point in the state legislature. He is urging voters to help Republicans gain seats in order to bring about change and put the state on the road to a balanced budget.

During one recent town hall, Phillips criticized what he calls Speaker Michael Madigan’s “topsy turvy” way of running the state House and emphasized to residents the importance of their vote.

“If we don’t gain some seats and put a stop against their outlandish spending, then we are in trouble,” Phillips said at a property tax town hall, which was held in Robinson earlier this month.

Phillips is expected to continue his series of town hall meetings with voters leading up to the November election.
