Rep. Reggie Phillips of District 110 will address the controversial issue of property taxes at an upcoming town hall as he defends his support of the current property tax legislation, stressing the need to put property tax decisions in the hands of voters.
Phillips will join the Crawford County Assessor’s office at the Community Center in Robinson for the property tax town hall, where the current House bill regarding property tax freezes will also be a topic of discussion.
“It is important property owners are empowered to understand the assessing process, exemptions and appeals if they feel they are over-assessed,” Phillips said in a recent press release. “I look forward to talking with constituents about property taxes and other Springfield updates.”
Phillips, who supports the current property tax freeze legislation, H.B. 696, will give voters details about the bill and how it will affect property owners in Illinois.
“I have and will continue to support H.B. 696,” Phillips told the East Central Reporter. “This is a common-sense piece of legislation that simply states the people should decide if they pay more in taxes, not the politicians. It’s time we work with property owners to better understand what property taxes pay for and what options are available to taxpayers.”
Phillips continues his stance against House Speaker Michael Madigan, saying the latter's policies of over-taxing and over-spending need to come to an end.
“The General Assembly, under Speaker Madigan’s rule, has become a tax and spend government and it needs to stop,” Phillips said. “I will continue to host town halls in the district to help property owners understand their taxes and work with them to make Illinois great again.”
The property tax town hall will be held at the community center, located at 300 S. Lincoln St. in Robinson.
