Mattoon’s City Council  heard and approved a request for the final 2015 Motor Fuel Tax Street Maintenance Expenditure Statement in the amount of $421,719 during its Jan. 19 meeting.

Additionally, the council authorized a Motor Fuel Tax fund resolution requesting $9,800 for concrete pavement, gutters, and driveway pavement construction along Wabash Avenue.

The council also adopted a special ordinance allowing the city of Mattoon to join a class-action lawsuit against certain marketers of liquid alum, based on allegations of price fixing. City Attorney Janett Winter-Black provided the council with information on the lawsuit.

Building repairs for an auditorium damaged by a vehicle collision were authorized after an explanation about waiving formal bidding requirements to accept a vendor’s $31,173 price quote. Finally, an ordinance was passed to repeal a previous ordinance and amend the municipal code concerning municipal meter exemptions and an increased electricity tax.
