Illinois State Representative Brad Halbrook announced the passage of legislation aimed at providing property tax relief for seniors in Illinois. The new law will raise the income limit for the Senior Freeze Homestead Exemption, allowing more seniors with annual incomes up to $75,000 to benefit from reduced property taxes starting in 2026.
Halbrook also recognized Veterans Day and marked the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps, noting the ongoing tradition of service and sacrifice. "Let us pause to honor the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniform. Their service reminds us that freedom is never free," Halbrook stated.
Additionally, Halbrook addressed concerns regarding Governor Pritzker’s proposed transit reform bill. He described it as "a costly bailout that raids road funds and forces Downstate families to pay for Chicago’s mismanagement."
A recent report highlighted issues within Chicago Public Schools (CPS), revealing that some staff members used CPS funds for luxury travel and questionable purchases. The findings were reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Halbrook, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois' 107th House District in 2023, succeeding Blaine Wilhour.
