A bill has been passed to raise the income limit for the Senior Freeze Homestead Exemption, which will take effect in 2026. This change means that seniors with an annual income of up to $75,000 will be eligible for property tax relief.

The measure aims to help more seniors who are living on fixed incomes. According to the announcement, "We passed a bill to raise the income limit for the Senior Freeze Homestead Exemption." The statement also notes, "Starting in 2026, more seniors—up to $75,000 annual income—can benefit and save on property taxes."

Brad Halbrook, a Republican, was elected in 2023 as the Illinois State Representative for the state's 107th House District. He replaced former state representative Blaine Wilhour.
