The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has announced a public hearing on November 13, 2025, in Carlyle to discuss proposed changes to the waterfowl hunting season. The meeting will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Carlyle High School's cafeteria and commons area.
Earlier this year, IDNR released its schedule for waterfowl hunting seasons and split timing in Illinois. One proposal suggested prohibiting waterfowl hunting during the traditional Christmas holiday break. This proposal prompted responses from local hunters and community members.
State Representative Blaine Wilhour informed his constituents that their feedback was heard by the department. "One of the proposed changes to the regular waterfowl hunting season would have disallowed waterfowl hunting during the traditional Christmas holiday season break."
Another meeting will be held on November 12, 2025, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Wilhour, a Republican, was elected to represent Illinois' 110th House District in 2023, succeeding Chris Miller.
More information about the public meetings can be obtained from the IDNR or by contacting Wilhour’s office.
