City of Tuscola City Council met Sept. 22.
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order with Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop, and Mayor Kleiss in attendance. Mayor Kleiss led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Consent Agenda
Mayor Kleiss went over the items on the consent agenda:
• Minutes of the September 8, 2025, meeting
• Financial report for August 2025
• Payment of bills totaling $201,767.64
• Community Building lease with alcohol request from the TCHS Alumni for the All School Reunion on September 26, 2025
• Approval of Homecoming parade and route planned for September 26, 2025
• Approval of Tuscola VFW Veteran's Day parade and route on November 11, 2025
Hoey moved to approve the items on the consent agenda. Shoemaker seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop. Rund moved to approve the consent agenda for September 22, 2025. Waldrop seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.
Mayor
Mayor Kleiss reminded council the city has a big week ahead with all the homecoming festivities. Special recognition to the Class of 1975, celebrating their 50th year since graduating.
Mayor Kleiss offered the city's condolences to Brian and Kate Moody on the passing of Kate's father, Alan Hettinger.
The Mayor announced he and Administrator Hoel would be working with Attorney Schweighart on strengthening the City's ordinances regarding nuisance properties. There are many properties in terrible shape, Kleiss stated, and we need to be more aggressive.

Other
1. Mayor Kleiss noted work has begun and is progressing on the renovations of the pool house.
2. Treasurer Long announced cross connection surveys were emailed to water residents today. This survey is done every three years and is an EPA requirement. Long encourages everyone to fill this survey out online.
Contracts and Agreements
Mayor Kleiss presented an estimate from Swinderman, Inc., for network wiring at City Hall. The city has been experiencing network outages over the last several weeks and we are no longer able to patch together enough 'band aids' to stay operational. The IT consultant advises an upgrade to the old wiring and network switches. Morris moved to approve the estimate from Swinderman, Inc., in the amount of $10,600.63, for new network wiring and data drops at City Hall. Shoemaker seconded. VOTE YEA* Brace, Day, Hoey, Morris, Rund, Shoemaker, Slaughter, Waldrop.
