Arthur Community Unified School District 305 Board of Trustees met Sept. 24.
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
The special meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Beth Wiley at 6:00 pm on September 24, 2025 in the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School Cafeteria with the following members in attendance: Beth Wiley, Mitch Fleming, Monica Green, Justin Wierman, Jenny Moore and Ryan Nettles. Superintendent Shannon Cheek was present. Board member Ryan Nettles arrived at 6:01. Board member Brock Casteel was absent.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Visitors were recognized including new staff in the district:
Steffanie Seegmiller, Principal at Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School introduced Sarah Varner, Special Ed teacher.
Marla Graham, Principal at Lovington Grade School introduced David Meyer, Social Studies teacher.
The FY26 Budget Hearing was held.
In public comment:
Denise Strack, 1st grade teacher spoke and asked the board to consider the MOU that has been presented to them.
Katie Shoemaker, 5th grade teacher asked the board to consider the MOU presented by the AEA.
The board considered approval of FY 25 Budget. A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to approve the FY 26 Budget. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
School Improvement presentations were given by building administrators.
In board comment Monica Green thanked the superintendent for the work that went into preparing the budget. Beth Wiley thanked the administrators for their School Improvement presentations and Jenny Moore expressed appreciation for the staff that are working together to make positive changes in student outcomes which is evident by the data presented.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Justin Wierman to go into closed session at 7:12 pm under the Open Meetings Act for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c)(1). Upon roll, all members in attendance voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Mitch Fleming, seconded by Justin Wierman to leave executive session at 8:48 pm. Upon roll, all members in attendance voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Justin Wierman, seconded by Monica Green to accept executive session minutes as read in executive session. Upon roll, all members in attendance voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles, seconded by Mitch Fleming to adjourn at 8:50 pm. Upon roll, all members in attendance voted yea. Motion carried.
