315 Black students enrolled in Coles County districts in 2023-24 school year

There were 315 Black students enrolled in Coles County school districts in the 2023-24 school year, 2.6% more than the previous year, according to the Illinois State Board of Education.

Data showed that Black students made up 5.5% of the 5,729 students in the county. They were the second least represented ethnicity.

Among the three districts in Coles County, Mattoon Community Unit School District 2 recorded the highest enrollment of Black students in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of 160 students.
