State Representative Blaine Wilhour has announced the launch of the America 250 Civics Education Coalition, an initiative aimed at improving civic education in schools across the United States. The coalition was introduced on September 17th, Constitution Day, by the U.S. Department of Education and several private organizations.

First Liberty Institute joined more than 40 other groups, including Turning Point USA, to support this new coalition. The effort commemorates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon stated that the coalition’s goal is “to ensure every young American understands the beauty of our nation and is equipped with the civic knowledge required to contribute meaningfully to its future.”

Rep. Wilhour serves as Republican Spokesperson for the Elementary & Secondary Education Committee and is a member of the Education Policy Committee. He said, “I am proud to promote this effort to reignite the flames of patriotism, strengthen civic literacy, and inspire Americans of all ages to understand and cherish our founding principles.” He added, “Too many Americans lack even a basic understanding of the Constitution, our founding ideals, and the responsibilities of citizenship. This program to reach schools and communities will help reawaken civic awareness and unite the nation around our shared story.”

The coalition plans to introduce several programs over the next year. These include a Fundamental Liberties College Speaker Series and a nationwide speaking tour covering college campuses in all fifty states.

Wilhour was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 110th House District in 2023, succeeding Chris Miller.

Organizations involved in this initiative range from policy institutes to educational foundations such as Hillsdale College, Heritage Foundation, Moms for Liberty, PragerU, Eagle Forum, and others.

Further information about upcoming events and details about coalition members can be found on the America 250 Civics Education Coalition website.
