The State of Illinois will begin a tax amnesty period on October 1, allowing residents who owe back taxes to pay their outstanding balances in full and have penalties and interest forgiven. The initiative is intended to encourage taxpayers to resolve unpaid obligations without incurring additional costs.

According to the state, this limited-time program gives individuals and businesses the chance to settle their debts while avoiding further financial penalties. More information about the amnesty period can be found at https://tax.illinois.gov/programs/2025illinoistaxamnesty.html.

Brad Halbrook, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 107th House District, replacing previous state representative Blaine Wilhour.

"Don’t pay more than you have to," states the announcement regarding the amnesty period. "Starting October 1, the state is offering a limited tax amnesty period — pay your outstanding taxes in full and have penalties and interest forgiven."

Residents are encouraged by officials to take advantage of this opportunity before it ends.
