Decades of public policy decisions have resulted in Illinois residents paying some of the highest property taxes in the country, according to State Representative Brad Halbrook. In response, Halbrook has introduced three bills aimed at providing property tax relief throughout Illinois.

The proposed legislation includes HB 1495, which would create a property tax relief pilot program; HB 1496, which would cap property tax evaluations; and HB 1497, which would limit home rule property tax increases statewide.

“Illinoisans are begging for property tax relief,” said Rep. Halbrook. “But instead of addressing the root causes of skyrocketing property taxes, the Democrats in Springfield ignore the problems and are negligent in the continued rise of property taxes in Illinois that are driving people out of our great state. My legislation would immediately provide relief for Illinois families.”

Halbrook was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois' 107th House District in 2023, succeeding Blaine Wilhour.
