A lawsuit filed by Edgar County Watchdogs, Inc. against Shelby County and its State’s Attorney under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) remains active. The legal proceedings continue despite reports in the local community suggesting otherwise.

At a recent court hearing, the organization sought to overturn a dismissal that was ordered on August 19, 2025. According to several sworn affidavits included with their motion, attorneys for Edgar County Watchdogs were not notified about the status hearing where the case was dismissed.

The court granted the organization's motion to vacate the dismissal. A new status hearing has been scheduled for October 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
