Illinois State Representative Chris Miller has voiced strong criticism of the state’s current energy and economic policies, calling for an end to what he terms the “Green New Scam.” Miller argues that efforts by Governor J.B. Pritzker and Democratic lawmakers to promote renewable energy are creating higher costs and threatening the reliability of Illinois’ power grid.

“There is no climate crisis, but Illinois has created an energy crisis and lacks the common sense to support energy policies that keep rates down and our grid stable,” Miller said. He added that despite warnings about potential blackouts, Democrats continue to support solar and wind projects.

Miller serves on the Energy and Environment Committee in the Illinois House but claims it did not meet during the legislative session to discuss what he sees as a growing energy crisis. He attributes rising prices to legislation eliminating coal-fired power plants, stating, “Energy prices are skyrocketing and progressive Democrats have no one to blame but themselves for passing legislation to combat a climate hoax.”

The representative also criticized recent business regulations passed in Springfield, including Senate Bill 1976 and Senate Bill 328. According to Miller, these measures add burdens for small businesses already struggling under what he describes as one of the most regulated environments in the country. He said such laws drive businesses out of Illinois.

Miller contrasted Governor Pritzker’s approach with former President Donald Trump’s tax policies: “President Trump has given taxpayers and small-business owners the biggest tax reductions by signing the ‘Big Beautiful Bill.’ Pritzker can blame President Trump like he usually does, but under Republican leadership, businesses in every state will benefit from strong, commonsense policies that build economic growth.”

Highlighting local culture within his district—which includes Arthur, home to Illinois’ largest Amish community—Miller praised its values. “The community of Arthur represents values everyone can learn from, and the food is always homegrown, fresh, and clean,” said Miller. “The Amish have a way of life that is inspiring: they work hard, and they do more with less. I am proud to represent them and to highlight the many contributions they make to our region.”

Miller described Arthur as a destination known for traditional Amish meals at establishments like Yoder’s Kitchen and noted its appeal for visitors interested in learning about Amish customs.

Turning back to policy issues, Miller criticized Governor Pritzker’s education initiatives. He expressed concern over mental health programs in schools as well as new laws granting free public education access regardless of immigration status.

He also referenced proposals by former Obama administration officials advocating redistricting reform through Fair Maps Illinois—a measure opposed by Governor Pritzker—and criticized changes made by state education leaders lowering proficiency standards in reading and math.

On public safety issues, Miller pointed out that a new law signed by Governor Pritzker will require creation of an online violent crime database accessible by September 2026.

Chris Miller was elected as a Republican representative for Illinois’ 101st House District in 2023 after replacing Reggie Phillips.

For constituents seeking assistance with state agencies or wishing to meet with Rep. Miller, his Charleston office is open weekdays.
