JB Pritzker has dismissed claims that crime is a significant issue in Chicago and across Illinois, despite ongoing concerns from some community members. Critics argue that policies such as the SAFE-T Act and Sanctuary City measures have contributed to safety challenges in the state.

During a recent tour of Chicago, Governor Pritzker told the Associated Press that deploying the National Guard was unnecessary, countering statements made by former President Donald Trump about rising crime rates in the city. "Gov. Pritzker says Trump trying to ‘manufacture a crisis’ as admin plans National Guard deployment to Chicago," according to reports.

Pritzker, along with California Governor Gavin Newsom, has stated that crime is under control in their respective states. However, surveys indicate that most Americans view crime as a major problem.

Chris Miller, a Republican elected to represent Illinois' 101st House District in 2023, succeeded Reggie Phillips as state representative.

"Newsom and Pritzker tell Trump crime is under control but vast majority of Americans see it as ‘major problem’."

"Guard not needed in Chicago, Pritzker tells AP during tour of city to counter Trump’s crime claims."
