Energy prices and clean energy policies were the main topics at a recent senate energy and public utilities committee hearing in Illinois. Lawmakers discussed the impact of rising summer utility bills and debated the direction of Illinois’ future energy sources.

Illinois State Representative Chris Miller criticized both President Joe Biden’s administration and Governor J.B. Pritzker’s climate policies, saying these initiatives have contributed to higher costs for residents. “This whole mess has been brought to you by the Biden, Harris, J.B. Pritzker regime that has set out to destroy Illinois and America with this green energy scam,” Miller said while referencing the Cooks Mill Solar Project in Coles County, Illinois. “If you look around at these solar panels, they’re covering Class A farm ground, food-producing farm ground, some of the greatest, some of the best farm ground that’s ever been created by our good Lord.”

Miller was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois’ 101st House District in 2023, succeeding Reggie Phillips.

Republican lawmakers are urging their colleagues to return to Springfield to address increasing energy prices faced by consumers.

At a news conference held at Embaras bar and grill in Villa Grove, local business owner Ryan Garett reported a significant rise in his monthly utility expenses.
