Clay County taxpayers ranked 81st in total sales taxes paid per county in March, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $110,943 in sales taxes during March.

The county ranked 79th in the Prairie State the month before, with $110,869 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Clay County residents in March came from the Special County Retailers Occupation Tax.

The Special County Retailers Occupation Tax, a crucial revenue stream, is primarily allocated for county governments' use.
