Shelby County, Illinois—In a recent development, Advanced Correctional Healthcare (ACH) and USA Medical and Psychological Staffing (USA Medical) have reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit filed by Chad Hammond. The case involved allegations of inadequate medical care. Public records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request to the Shelby County State’s Attorney confirmed the settlement.

Hammond received $1,000 as part of the agreement. This amount contrasts sharply with the $1,100,000 settlement awarded to Nicholas Banning in a similar case involving ACH. Of that sum, $250,000 was directly linked to ACH.

The disparity between the settlements has raised questions. One possible explanation is the difference in legal representation; Hammond represented himself pro se while Banning had professional legal counsel.

A copy of the settlement agreement is available for public access.
