Governor J.B. Pritzker recently appeared before Congress to discuss Illinois' sanctuary state policies. Under his administration, Illinois has become a significant destination for undocumented immigrants, offering them healthcare, housing, and food funded by taxpayers. Since 2022, over $3 billion has been spent on these services, excluding education and other costs.

Representative Mary Miller of Hindsboro criticized Pritzker's approach, stating he is "rolling out the red carpet for illegal aliens" and that they have "overwhelmed our communities."

Pritzker faces accusations of misleading the public regarding crime rates and economic impact while allegedly ignoring federal immigration policies. Critics argue that these actions prioritize undocumented immigrants over Illinois residents' safety and prosperity.

There are concerns about the state's public policies leading to an exodus of families and businesses. The debate highlights tensions between state-level sanctuary policies and federal immigration enforcement.

Critics also allege that Pritzker aids undocumented immigrants in avoiding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) through non-profit organizations. They claim this undermines taxpayer interests by supporting groups that resist federal immigration laws.
