Today, a case status hearing took place for Jerry Willison, a former trustee of the Oakland Fire Protection District. The trial date for Willison has been set for November 4, 2025. This development follows the recent sentencing of his son, Kiley Willison, who is also a former trustee and was convicted last Friday.

The delay in setting Jerry Willison's trial date was linked to his son's case. Jerry's attorney confirmed that with Kiley's sentencing concluded, they are prepared to proceed with Jerry's trial.

There is speculation regarding the connection between the two cases. It is believed that since Kiley refused to testify before his sentencing, he may now be able to provide testimony in his father's defense without jeopardizing his own case further.

A potential statement from Kiley could include: "My father had nothing to do with this. I was running all the books at the Fire Department, and neither my wife nor my dad had any idea the checks and other documents I asked them to sign were for anything other than legitimate Fire Department business. They trusted that I was taking care of business properly. I was guilty of stealing from the taxpayers and lying to my family for my own personal gain. I admitted to the crime and have been sentenced to include full restitution. My father had nothing to do with this."

In a jury trial scenario, convincing just one juror of innocence can be pivotal.
