Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is set to visit Springfield today, where she will address Illinois' "sanctuary" policies. This visit has prompted a response from the office of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
Noem plans to hold a press conference highlighting concerns about these policies, which she and other officials in President Donald Trump's administration argue protect individuals who are in the country illegally and have committed crimes. They claim such laws prevent these individuals from facing consequences.
The timing of Noem's visit follows Governor Pritzker's decision to voluntarily testify before a Congressional committee evaluating the effects of sanctuary policies that restrict local law enforcement's collaboration with federal immigration authorities.
State Representative Chris Miller expressed support for Noem's visit, stating: “Pritzker is the only one to not take action against dangerous illegals in our communities, and even signs legislation into law to protect them.” He added that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem traveled to Springfield "to support Illinois citizens who want safer communities and to send a message to Pritzker that the Trump administration will not stop putting American citizens first."
