Jefferson County, Illinois, has released documents related to the arrest of Nason Mayor Michelle McKinney. The Jefferson County Sheriff's office initially delayed releasing records, citing the need for approval from the State’s Attorney. Once obtained, the documents prompted questions about the case.

The records, which have undergone redactions for privacy reasons, reveal details about the charges against McKinney, including possession of a stolen vehicle and obstruction. The search warrant associated with the case authorized searches in various areas, such as rooms and basements of a house, although its relevance to a vehicle-related investigation was unclear.

The State's Attorney raised a question regarding how McKinney obtained a truck title in 2010, suggesting a possibility of forgery. Police reports indicate that both McKinney and her boyfriend may have misled authorities about matters concerning the truck. It remains uncertain if charges will also be brought against the boyfriend for obstruction of justice.

Contrary to initial reports, which claimed McKinney was muzzled during her arrest, a statement from the Sheriff later confirmed this was not the case.
