The Illinois Department of Transportation is set to begin a 14-mile patching and resurfacing project on Interstate 55, spanning from Litchfield to the Macoupin/Madison County line. The project is scheduled to start on Monday, April 21, with an expected completion by the end of September.
The project will also include resurfacing ramps at Litchfield (exit 52), Mount Olive (exit 44), and Staunton (exit 41). According to the department, most of the work will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings.
During this period, lane closures are anticipated. Message boards will be deployed to guide traffic through the construction zones. Motorists are advised to prepare for possible delays and allocate extra travel time when passing through the area. The department assures that the project will result in a smoother driving surface.
