The upcoming annual "MAIN EVENT" invites all Shelbyville K-3 students and their families to an end-of-school-year celebration. Scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the event will unfold at Forest Park. The theme for this year is the 1980s, with diverse music performances planned. These performances, tailored by grade level, will take place at the Chautauqua stage, with kindergarten at 5:10 p.m., first grade at 5:35 p.m., second grade at 6:00 p.m., and third grade at 6:25 p.m.
Attractions at this community gathering include three large inflatable structures. Attendees can enjoy the "MEGA Marble" dual-lane obstacle course, the "Shadow" dual-lane obstacle course, and the "Accelerator" dual-lane slide, all offered free of charge. Food options will be provided by the local Moose Lodge, offering hotdogs for $2 and pork tenderloin sandwiches for $4, alongside drinks including water and soda priced at $1 each, and Tropical-Sno treats.
A variety of free entertainment is planned, such as hair glitter provided by SHS NHS, photo opportunities with K-3 art, face painting by the SHS Art Club, and pedal tractor pulls organized by Stacy Cole. The schedule for the pulls is second grade at 5:10 p.m., third grade at 5:35 p.m., kindergarten at 6:00 p.m., and first grade at 6:25 p.m. Further activities include performances by TPS DJ Service led by Ken Tomlin and demonstrations from local emergency and health services, including the Shelbyville Police and Fire Departments and an Air Evac helicopter.
Interactive stations will be offered by various local organizations, including "MAKE on MAIN" with Amber Wehrle, "Simply Yours" with Schryll Bernson, and "Healthy Communities" by Sarah Bush Lincoln, represented by Miranda Moody. Additionally, IHI Turbo and GPI will present demonstrations and donations, respectively. SHS NHS is coordinating an array of games and activities with prizes, including crown design, mega cup pong, and various toss games.
The Shelbyville High School National Honor Society is recognized for its substantial volunteer contributions, with Rebekah Drone playing a key role in organizing manpower for the event. Expressing enthusiasm for the gathering, the event remarks, "This event is so much FUN! I LOVE our small town & schools...the vision is 'Mayberry Picnic!'"
