Construction for the Safe Routes to School program in Paris, Illinois, is set to begin on April 21, 2025. The project, focusing on Mayo Middle School, Wenz School, and Memorial School, aims to enhance safety for children walking and biking to school.

The contractor appointed for the improvements is McCarthy Improvements. The construction process is expected to take approximately 35 days. The initiative is supported by both local and federal Safe Routes to School grant funds managed by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

The project includes installing ADA-compliant ramps near Memorial and Wenz Schools, as well as sidewalk replacements and new sidewalk constructions around Mayo Middle School and the John P. Allen sports complex, associated with the school.

While the construction occurs during the school year, the city apologizes for any disruption and asks for patience, emphasizing the long-term benefits for the safety and health of children. "We are aware that these improvements are starting within the school year and will be a disruption, we apologize for the timing. However, please be patient and consider the quality improvements our children and schools are receiving."

For more information, specific location maps are accessible at City Hall.
