After the April 1, 2025, election, significant changes are coming to Thornton Township as State Senator Napoleon Harris and his slate have secured victory. The township will see a new Township Supervisor and new Trustees taking office.
According to the election results, one of the first priorities is a comprehensive forensic audit of all township finances since Henyard's appointment as supervisor. The public's right to transparency regarding financial expenditures is emphasized as paramount. The statement highlights, "The public has a right to know how every penny of their money was spent, anything short of that is a disservice to the residents of Thornton Township."
Furthermore, the statement urges that all township financial records should be accessible online, which would allow residents to monitor the new administration's financial activities.
Additionally, the incoming administration is advised to seek legal clarification on the validity of an elected official compensation ordinance. Previously, Henyard passed what was termed an unlawful ordinance concerning the compensation of elected officials, which has since been deemed illegal through new state legislation and an internal board decision. However, this has not resolved issues linked to the previous ordinance, which is identified as needing urgent correction.
