Chris Miller, a representative for Illinois State House District 101, said that the U.S. Department of Education is investigating the Illinois Department of Education, Deerfield Public School District 109, and a Chicago district "over reported Title IX violations" related to an incident involving a female student allegedly being forced to change in front of a biological male. Miller made this statement in a Facebook post on March 21.

"Great news on a Friday! The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights announced Thursday that it is launching an investigation into the Illinois Department of Education, the Chicago Public School District 299 (CPS) and Deerfield Public Schools District 109 over reported Title IX violations," said Miller, State Representative, according to Facebook. "We will not stay silent on this and we will expose the radical Democrats for embracing a repulsive ideology."

The alleged incident took place at Deerfield’s Alan B. Shepherd Middle School and prompted parent Nicole Georgas to file a federal lawsuit against the school district and administrators. According to reports, her daughter was allegedly coerced into changing for physical education in front of a biological male. During a school board meeting on March 11, Georgas described how her daughter fled the locker room after administrators attempted to make her change clothes in front of another student. The Lake County Gazette reported that administrators reprimanded female students who complained about the presence of a boy in the girls’ locker room and insisted they change anyway.

Miller's post included a link to a Fox News report discussing the investigation, which highlighted conversations between Georgas and school administrators. Georgas argued that allowing a student who identifies as female to use the girls' locker room violated President Donald Trump’s executive order regarding biological males' participation in women's sports. The Deerfield School District responded by stating its commitment to providing an environment where all students and staff are respected and supported. The district added that its policies align with state laws, the Illinois School Code, and guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Chris Miller has been serving in the Illinois State House of Representatives since his election in 2019. He is originally from Illinois and works as a third-generation cattle farmer and grain operator in Hindsboro. Miller holds an associate degree in agriculture from Lake Land College and a Bachelor of Science in Education.
