DuPage Township in Will County, Illinois, is responsible for the upkeep of two cemeteries: Alexander Cemetery in Romeoville and Boardman Cemetery in Bolingbrook. Recently, a campaign sign was placed on the iron fence of Alexander Cemetery by the DuPage Township Democrats or was allowed to remain there. The sign has been updated to reflect a change in the first name of a Supervisor Candidate.

This action raises concerns as placing campaign signs on public property contravenes the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. This legislation mandates compliance from all local governments and prohibits such political activities as outlined in Section 5-15. Additionally, it violates Article VIII, Section 1, of the Illinois Constitution concerning the unlawful use of public property if these signs were placed or permitted by township officials or employees.

Photos documenting this situation have been shared on Facebook.
