HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital has announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors. Chuck Deters from Teutopolis and Joseph Emmerich from Effingham have joined the board, contributing their experience and expertise to assist in meeting healthcare needs in the area.

Anthony Powers, Chief Administrative Officer at St. Anthony’s, expressed his satisfaction with the appointments, stating, “We are so pleased to have successful community leaders like Chuck and Joe join our Board.” He added that their experience and community involvement would enhance the existing team of board members.

Chuck Deters brings a wealth of experience from his 15 years at Dieterich Bank, where he served as CEO for nine years. His background also includes significant roles in operations and human resources at Consolidated Communications. Deters has been active on several boards, including the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation and Friends of St. Anthony’s Foundation.

Deters commented on his new role by saying, “Now that I am retired, I have more time to support organizations I am passionate about, like the mission of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.”

Joseph Emmerich joins the board with 47 years of professional history at John Boos & Co., rising from factory worker to CEO. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for John Boos while also being an ordained Deacon with the Diocese of Springfield.

Emmerich noted that “St. Anthony’s ministry and mission of delivering high-quality health care to all aligns with my professional experience as a business executive while also fitting well with my service as a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church.”

Both Deters and Emmerich will work alongside current board members Dr. Eric Bloemer, Jean Anne Highland, Carrie Rodman, Dr. Lana Schmidt, Allie Weber, and Karen Whitt to further advance St. Anthony’s mission.
