Village of Rochester Mayor Joseph Suerdieck has addressed a letter to the State Journal-Register concerning a recent lawsuit settlement. The case arose after Suerdieck denied a liquor license to a local business. The settlement and related issues have sparked discussions about his conduct as mayor.

In the letter, Suerdieck accused all but one board member of dishonesty. However, he did not specify which parts of the affidavits in question were untrue. The absence of sanctions motions suggests either poor legal strategy or insufficient evidence to support such claims.

Concerns have been raised about potential conflicts of interest involving Suerdieck's hardware store, which billed the village $1,576.89 over two years. Observers recommend that Suerdieck review the Public Officers Prohibited Activities Act to ensure compliance with regulations governing public officials' business dealings with their municipalities.

The mayor's statements about his time living and working in the community also prompted questions. He mentioned living there for over 30 years while claiming only 23 years of work experience locally.

As Suerdieck seeks re-election, these controversies may influence voters' decisions in the upcoming election.
