State Representative Brad Halbrook recently paid tribute to soldiers of the Blackhawk Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 130th Infantry Regiment during a mobilization ceremony in Effingham, Illinois. These National Guard soldiers are preparing for deployment as part of Operation Spartan Shield.

During the ceremony on February 8th, Rep. Halbrook acknowledged the service and sacrifice of approximately 550 guardsmen and women. "Operation Spartan Shield is taking you to one of the most violent places in the world," he stated. "It takes a tremendous amount of courage to willingly deploy and takes character and patriotism. America is worth fighting for and defending. You are living proof of that profound truth."

The event included Company B's mobilization ceremony where 130 soldiers and their families were present as they prepared for deployment. Multiple ceremonies took place across southern Illinois to honor the battalion's mission.

The Blackhawk Battalion will focus on securing and protecting U.S. and allied forces while stationed in Jordan, with personnel spread across 17 locations in seven countries under the U.S. Central Command area.
