State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) said "Gov. J.B. Pritkzer's (D) use of the term "Nazis" to describe supporters of President Donald Trump (R) was inappropriate and divisive."

"Governor Pritzker’s comments were completely inappropriate and divisive,” said Halbrook. “Comparing millions of hardworking Americans—including those who simply want our immigration laws enforced—to Nazis is not only false, but it’s also dangerous rhetoric that has no place in our political discourse.”

“Illinoisans deserve leadership that focuses on solving real problems, not inflammatory attacks meant to silence political opponents,” said Halbrook. “I absolutely condemn these remarks and call on the Governor to retract them and apologize to the people he insulted. We need serious discussions about the challenges facing our state, not reckless name-calling from our elected leaders."

"I do not invoke the specter of Nazis lightly... I'm watching with a foreboding dread what is happening in our country right now,” said Pritzker in his State of the State Address on Feb. 19.

State Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) said Pritzker’s comments were "disgusting," reported Fox32Chicago, and State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) said the governor’s comments “will only incite the violence he claims to condemn.”

Halbrook serves as the State Representative for Illinois' 107th District, having assumed office on January 11, 2023. Born on July 22, 1961, in Pana, Illinois, he attended Lake Land College. Halbrook is a diversified farmer and small business owner, previously operating a company that manufactures fences. He was first appointed to the Illinois House in April 2012, representing the 110th District until January 2015, and returned to serve the 102nd District from 2017 to 2023. In the legislature, Halbrook has served on committees including Appropriations-General Service, Cities & Villages, Counties & Townships, and Housing. He resides in Shelbyville, Illinois, with his wife, Linda; they have two adult children and one grandchild. Halbrook is a former member of the Illinois Beef Association Board and has been involved in local Republican Party leadership.
