State Senator Steve McClure has introduced Senate Bill 1241, which addresses the appointment process for cemetery boards in townships without a township collector. This move comes after concerns about the legality of Shelby County Board Member Teresa Boehm's dual role on the Rose Township Cemetery Board.

SB1241 proposes that township supervisors should appoint cemetery board managers in townships lacking a collector. Currently, this responsibility falls to county treasurers acting as township collectors in such areas.

The bill amends the Township Code, allowing township supervisors to appoint cemetery board managers if their township owns or controls a cemetery and lacks a collector. This change aims to clarify appointment procedures for small townships outside Cook and collar counties.

Questions have arisen regarding the necessity of this bill, given previous assertions of legality in such appointments. The introduction of SB1241 suggests a need to address potential conflicts of interest highlighted by local prosecutors concerning holding dual offices.
