The Pecatonica Township Clerk is facing allegations of selectively removing candidates from the ballot due to "apparent nonconforming" petitions. The accusations suggest that only candidates opposing her friends or relatives were targeted, as indicated by a township resolution passed this week.

The resolution highlights that the clerk's own nominating papers are also nonconforming. If all such petitions are removed, only one township trustee candidate would remain on the ballot. Consequently, a Winnebago County Circuit Court Judge may need to appoint three township trustees, the township clerk, the township supervisor, and the township road commissioner to fill any resulting vacancies after election results are certified.

There is skepticism about whether this resolution will legally impact the candidates, ballot, or election process. Updates on its outcome will be provided as they become available.
