State Representative Adam Niemerg of Dieterich, Illinois, has responded to the recent guilty verdicts in the corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan. In a statement following the announcement by federal prosecutors, Niemerg expressed his views on the outcome.

"The Velvet Hammer has finally been held accountable," Niemerg stated. He questioned why Democrats seem to downplay the significance of the verdicts. "The real question is, why do the Democrats act like there is nothing to see here? Maybe it’s because it’s still business as usual in Springfield with no real anti-corruption legislation initiated since Madigan left."
