FOIA Request to Edgar County Election Division Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Edgar County Election Division.
Our request seeks a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; their jurisdiction; and their party affiliation.
In addition to this, we have also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
