City of Martinsville City Council met Jan. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Alderman Roll Call:

Chris Davidson

Jacob Hammond

Bob Lovell

Chris Perry

Ashley Wilhoit - Absent

Attendance: Caitlin Dill-City Clerk, Dan Kibler-Marshall Advocate, Ryan Slater, and Harley Craig.

Meeting called to order by Mayor Lovell at 7 PM.

Prayer: Bob Lovell

Pledge of Allegiance: All

Public Comments:

Ryan Slater: Kevin is in the academy; his graduation is set to be in April. The other new hire did out work out. Ryan is talking to another certified person for that open position.

--Motion by C Davidson, 2nd by J Hammond, to approve the previous meeting minutes for 12/11/2024.

--Motion by S Pendleton, 2nd by C Davidson, to approve the Bill list presented.

--Motion by C Davidson, 2nd by S Pendleton, to approve the Resignation of Robert Lovell, Ward -1 Alderman.

--Motion by J Hammond, 2nd by C Perry, to approve Harley Craig as Appointed Alderman for Ward-1 for the remainder of Lovell’s term.

OTHER:

Lovell:

● Designing for the splash pad will begin in the next few weeks.

● Coating for the pickleball court will be in the Spring.

● Handrails are done in front of Cutting Edge; they will be painted when weather allows. Pendleton:

● Business entry/grade for Carver’s isn’t ideal conditions, contemplating widening the turn from the street. Davidson:

● Tree’s need to be planted in the Spring.

● City workers did a great job at clearing the streets during the hard weather.

● Questioning if there is a possibility for a snow blower that could be put on a John Deere.

● Considering options for entry/grade for Carver’s business as well.

● Curious about implementing a permit for building on a property to know if it is in the proper location free of gas lines, waterways, etc.
