FOIA Request to Coles County Sheriff's Department Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request specifically pertains to documents and/or records showing persons committed to the county jails of Coles County that have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024.
Access to public records is essential for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We look forward to receiving these records in electronic format from the Coles County Sheriff's Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about local governmental affairs.
