FOIA Request to Richland County Sheriff's Office Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025.
In our continued commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Richland County Sheriff's Office in Illinois. The request was made on January 29, 2025.
We are seeking documents and/or records showing persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024. This request is part of our ongoing efforts to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals due to our role in disseminating information.
