One of the key principles for healthcare professionals is establishing a connection with their patients, and Advanced Practice Provider Tamara Gorman, APRN, applies this understanding in her work. With four years of experience in managing diabetes, thyroid disease, and other hormonal issues, Gorman joins Sarah Bush Lincoln as an endocrinology provider to deliver quality care.

“People who have diabetes or other chronic conditions need someone they can trust to care for them over a long period of time, and I’m excited to offer that help,” Gorman said. “I offer individualized treatment for each person I see to help them be as healthy as possible.”

Gorman finds fulfillment in being a long-term caretaker for patients with conditions like diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease, and osteoporosis that require ongoing monitoring. “I want to get someone back on track with their health and provide the best care. If someone has high blood sugar, for example, I want to get their level back to a normal range,” she stated. “It’s very rewarding to see positive progress.”

Originally from Paris, Gorman previously worked at SBL as an inpatient nurse from 2016-2020. During this period, she attended Simmons College in Boston where she earned her Master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and developed an interest in endocrinology.

“I did a clinical in endocrinology, and I really enjoyed the people we cared for and the people I worked with,” she mentioned. “I recognized the wide range of endocrinology diseases that people need care for and decided to pursue that specialty.”

Gorman is practicing at SBL Family Medical Center in Mattoon and provides care at SBL Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia every third Thursday monthly.

Excited about her return to SBL, Gorman expressed enthusiasm about reconnecting with the community she serves. “I really enjoyed my co-workers and the culture at SBL when I worked as a nurse here previously,” Gorman said. “Caring for others is my passion. I’m thrilled to serve the community and help people achieve their health goals.”
