The Village of Rantoul Electoral Board convened on January 13, 2025, to address objections concerning a petition for a referendum. The proposed referendum aimed to eliminate the election of village trustees by district.

In previous discussions regarding this year's referendum, similar to the attempt two years prior, it was suggested that the referendum was premature under the Illinois Municipal Code.

During the hearing, objectors presented their arguments. However, instead of addressing these concerns directly, Village Trustee Terry Workman, who supported the referendum, responded with personal attacks against those opposing it. Workman expressed embarrassment over receiving only 88 votes in the last election and accused others of being responsible for legal expenses related to his previously unsuccessful referendum.

Ultimately, the board upheld the objection raised against placing this referendum on the ballot.
