FOIA Request to Edgar County Clerk Regarding 2025 Consolidated Elections Candidates on January 14, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Edgar County Clerk's office.
Our request specifically seeks access to a list of candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections. We have asked for details including each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the specific office they are running for.
As media professionals dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe that access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information.
