FOIA Request to Crawford County Clerk Regarding Candidates for 2025 Consolidated Elections on January 14, 2025.
In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We are seeking records from the Crawford County Clerk's office pertaining to the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.
Specifically, we have requested an electronic format list of candidates running in these elections. The desired information includes each candidate's name, the date they filed their candidacy, and the office they are vying for.
As a media organization, our role is to gather and report news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
We will continue our work in ensuring that local government actions remain transparent and accessible to all citizens.
