FOIA Request to Effingham County Sheriff's Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
In our continued efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and it specifically asked for arrest records from the year 2024.
The records we requested include a list of all arrests made from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. We asked for specific fields in these records including the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This information will help us in disseminating accurate news to the public and holding responsible parties accountable.
We believe that as media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver for this request.
We await a positive response from the Effingham County Sheriff's Office as we continue our work in providing transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs.
