A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Jasper County Sheriff's office regarding the arrest records for the year 2024 on January 7, 2025. The request was made by us at East Central Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request, made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, specifically asked for a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024, till December 31, 2024. The requested fields included the arrestee's name, arrest date, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested a fee waiver as part of our role in disseminating information to the public.
