We are saddened to report the loss of another Illinois State Trooper due to a vehicle crash resulting from a violation of Scott's Law. The incident has brought attention to the critical importance of adhering to motor vehicle laws that mandate drivers to move over when approaching emergency vehicles with activated emergency or hazard lights.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Trooper Clay Carns during this difficult time," stated an official release. The tragic event underscores the necessity for heightened awareness and compliance with traffic regulations designed to protect those who serve on the front lines.

Scott's Law, also known as the "Move Over" law, is intended to safeguard emergency responders by requiring motorists to change lanes or reduce speed when approaching stationary emergency vehicles. The recent accident serves as a somber reminder of the potential consequences when these rules are not followed.

The Illinois State Police continue their efforts in educating drivers about Scott’s Law, emphasizing its role in saving lives and preventing further tragedies on the roadways.
